It is important that you make sure that you choose the right real estate agent to work with; it will make the process much simpler. The obvious question then is just what do you look for when you are choosing a real estate agent?

The first thing that you are going to have to do when you are looking for a real estate agent is to narrow down your list of choices. There are probably hundreds of real estate agents listed in your phone book so you are going to have to have some way to narrow down the choices. The best option is to get a referral from anybody that you know who has bought or sold a house recently. There is a good chance that you know a few people who have used a realtor and give you an assessment of how well they did.

Once you have your choices narrowed down to three or four you are going to want to do some more research on the realtors you are considering. The big thing here is to make sure that they have experience in the market that you are looking in. There is little value to having a realtor who specializes in mansions if you are selling a starter home. The real estate agent that you choose should have experience in the area and the price range that you are dealing with.

Fortunately it is easy to determine whether the agent you are considering has the right kind of experience because you can get a list of all the houses they have sold and the sale price. This will not only tell you if they have the right kind of experience but it will also let you know how good an agent they are. You should also be able to find out what the asking price was and how long the house was on the market for. Obviously the real estate agent who can get closest to the asking price in the shortest time is probably the best choice.

The last thing that you are going to want to do is sit down with the agent that you are considering and talk about your needs. The key thing here is to make sure that you are comfortable with the person that you are working with. You will be spending a lot of time with them and they play an important role in your largest investment so you are going to want to make sure that you are comfortable with this person. If not you can always choose a different agent, there is no reason to work with somebody if it doesn't feel right.
